Apple cider was flowing in the Bell Top Learning Barn behind school on Friday as first grade students continued a longstanding fall tradition.
The two first grade classes rotated through cider production in the Learning Barn with Mrs. Lyte, an art project in Mrs. Lussier’s classroom and apple taste testing in the back of the Learning Barn.
Students washed apples, crushed them in the wooden hand press, poured them into small plastic bottles and then capped them. They learned about the apple cider process as well as simple machines such as a wheel, a crank and an incline plane. Students will get to bring the Bell Top Learning Barn Apple Cider home to share with their families.
More Bell Top classes will have the opportunity to make apple cider later this fall.
Special thanks to the parents and retired teachers who volunteered today!
