Children’s book author Veronica Backmon reading to students at Bell Top Elementary School.

Children’s book author Veronica Backmon visited Bell Top Elementary School on Thursday to read from her book “Piper’s Potluck” and share her writing process with students. Ms. Backmon visited classes throughout the day and then read her book to the entire school at a Final Touch assembly in the cafeteria.

After the reading at Final Touch, students were asked to find examples of the main character Piper showing respect. The exercise went along with the school’s character trait of respect.

Ms. Backmon also answered questions from students about the book and how she became an author.

“I’ve always had a love of writing,” she said, noting that she began sharing her writing with friends and family during the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s my passion.”

This guest author visit was coordinated by Bell Top Librarian Felice Devine and sponsored by the PTO.
