Columbia will be offering after school snacks starting in January.

Columbia High School will be offering a new after school snack program starting January 3, following the Holiday Recess. The pilot program will provide a menu of four healthy snacks to choose from that each include a protein, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables.

The cost is $2.00 each and the menu is listed below.

Students may order an after school snack each morning by 9:00 a.m. using a google form. Student accounts will be charged for the cost of the items served, so anyone ordering must have money on their school meal account.

“The importance of consuming healthier snack options is vital to the focus, success, and performance of our students,” said Wellness Coordinator Tom Libardi. “This program will provide our students the opportunity to refuel their bodies as they participate in extracurricular activities and supply an extra boost to help get them through the day.”

The pilot program will start with student athletes who stay after school for practices and games. If the program is well received, there are plans to expand it to all Columbia students who stay after school for extracurricular activities.

“Many times, vending machines are the only way for students to access food after school hours,” said Food Service Manager Colleen Wise. “We believe our students will enjoy having fresh, nutrient-dense snacks available.”
