Families of English as a New Language (ENL) students were invited to Genet Elementary School for an Elementary ENL Open House on Tuesday evening. While students colored and made crafts, their families learned more about the ENL program and the services provided by Genet and Red Mill, the two elementary schools with ENL students.

Elementary ENL teachers Kelly Aldinger, Jennifer Carraher, Rene Kanzler and Sabine Murphy led the presentation. They discussed the ENL program, assessments, attendance, technology resources and how families can support their students’ progress.

Also in attendance were interpreters to assist the families and Genet Principal Wayne Grignon and Red Mill Principal Helen Squillace.

“This was our first post-covid in-person event and it was wonderful to meet with our families face-to-face,” said Ms. Aldinger. “The ENL Open House is meant to support our families, develop their understanding of English as a New Language services and create a space for parents to ask questions. With the expansion of our elementary ENL services to include both Genet and Red Mill this year, it’s all the more important that we proactively engage with and inform our families about ENL and how we can partner together to support students’ academic and linguistic success.”
