Green Meadow Elementary School hosted author and illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka on Thursday to discuss books, writing and drawing. Mr. Krosoczka is the author and illustrator of over 40 books for kids and he is the creator of the National Book Award Finalist graphic novel “Hey Kiddo” for young adults.
Students prepared for the author visit by reading some of his picture books including “Punk Farm,” “Peanut Butter and Jellyfish,” “Baghead,” and “it’s tough to lose your balloon.” They also created artwork inspired by his books and put them on display as a welcome to the school.
During the visit, Mr. Krosoczka showed the students how he plans out his books and how he creates his characters. He also gave a demonstration of how he draws the lunch lady character from his Lunch Lady comic series.
He emphasized perseverance while telling the students about the times his books were rejected before he became an established author.
“Jarrett was the perfect author to visit our school because of his variety of work,” said Green Meadow Library Media Specialist Laura Wladarczyk. “The picture books, middle grade chapter books, and comics gave everyone something to enjoy.”
Special thanks to the Green Meadow PTO for sponsoring this event!
