Children’s book author Alicia Klepeis speaking at an assembly for Genet Elementary School students.

Children’s book author Alicia Klepeis visited Genet Elementary School on Wednesday to discuss books and the process she follows when writing. The former teacher has turned her love of travel and learning into a writing career with nearly 200 books to her credit.

During the assemblies at Genet, Ms. Klepeis presented a slideshow that illustrated her three-step writing process of 1) prepare 2) write and 3) make it better. She showed students photos of exotic places she has traveled to and the books and magazine articles that resulted.

She also gave the students tips on how they can become better writers.

“The students loved seeing pictures of interesting places around the world, learning about different foods at McDonald’s in different countries, and seeing some of her upcoming projects,” said Genet Library Media Specialist Sarah Garno. “The students had wonderful questions for her and were a fantastic audience.”

Special thanks to Mrs. Garno for coordinating this author visit and the PTO for sponsoring it!
