Pre-k students are learning about riding the school bus in preparation for next fall when they return to school as kindergarteners. The Red Mill pre-k class was visited by School Bus Driver Jill Bonesteel on Wednesday. She talked with the students about the importance of being safe on and around the bus.
Students were able to board the bus, buckle their seat belts and go for a short ride.
“This can be a very exciting time, but also a very nervous time for our first time bus riders,” said Mark Halsey, Assistant Transportation Supervisor. “Meeting a bus driver and going on a school bus allows our students a chance to see firsthand that riding the bus is a fun and exciting experience, while also learning the importance of safety and following the drivers’ instructions.”
The Transportation Department is planning to visit the other pre-k classrooms throughout the district before the end of the school year.
