Green Meadow students holding wooden toolboxes
With a hammer in one hand and a nail in the other, Green Meadow 4th grade students got to work on Wednesday morning building wooden toolboxes. The students also used screwdrivers and power drills, all under the guidance of local contractors and their teachers.

The activity was facilitated by members of the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition, a nonprofit organization spearheaded by Curtis Lumber consisting of members (including Questar III BOCES and Otterbeck Builders) whose mission is to raise awareness with students and adults alike about rewarding careers in the building trades.

Green Meadow 4th grade students built their own toolboxes on Wednesday under the guidance of local contractors.

“Activities like this are great because they’re interactive and help raise awareness with young students, both girls and boys, that great future career opportunities are available to them in the building trades,” said Jim Church, Director of Strategic Initiatives for Questar III BOCES.

By the end of the hands-on activity, students were proud to have assembled their very own toolboxes.

They also received a tape measurer with a level, and a reusable water bottle.
