All of the fifth graders from the East Greenbush Central School District elementary schools gathered at Schodack Island State Park in Castleton on Monday for the annual 5th Grade Mixer. It was an opportunity to meet students from other schools and get to know each other before they start 6th grade together at Howard L. Goff Middle School in September.
Students rotated through different stations that included kickball, volleyball, lawn games, the playground, lunch under the pavilion and other cooperative activities.
The event was sponsored by the East Greenbush Education Foundation.
“The East Greenbush Education Foundation was very happy to put this event on for our fifth graders,” said Steve Taylor, an officer in the East Greenbush Education Foundation. “The event always generates great excitement amongst the students. Their excitement is contagious and always adds to the success of the day. We were happy to help the students get better acclimated with each other as they prepare for their entry into middle school.”
Special thanks to the fifth grade teachers and staff, parent volunteers, Transportation Department and the Education Foundation Board members who assisted with the event.
