Thirty-four graduating seniors from Columbia High School earned the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness at the Columbian Awards on Thursday evening in the school auditorium.
The students achieved this award by demonstrating a high level of proficiency in terms of civic knowledge, skills, mindset and experiences. Each of the students will receive an official seal from the New York State Department of Education to be placed directly on their diplomas as well as a medallion to wear at graduation.
The Class of 2024 is the first cohort eligible to earn the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness.
“The Social Studies department was honored to support and mentor the first group of Columbia students to obtain the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness,” said Social Studies Department Chair Wendy McAlonie. “These students, each in their unique way, have made a positive difference in the life of their community through service projects, volunteerism, and action. The Seal of Civic Readiness empowers our students and improves our society beyond the typical classroom experience.”
Congratulations to our NYS Seal of Civic Readiness recipients!
