Children’s book author and illustrator Brian Yanish visited Genet Elementary School on Wednesday to discuss books, the writing process and how he developed a love for drawing and creating at a young age.
During his presentations in the school auditorium, Mr. Yanish showed some of his books to students including his series “Shark and Bot” and “Junk Re-Thunk,” a book that shows children how to build from household recyclable items.
“The students were fascinated to learn about Brian’s creative process,” said Genet Library Media Specialist Sarah Garno. “They were equally fascinated by his creations. Brian showed the students how to use a toilet paper roll, plastic bag, string, and tape to make a parachute monster. Several students said they went home and started making some of the projects he showed in his books. Brian was engaging and informative. Students and teachers alike enjoyed his presentations.”
Special thanks to the Genet PTO for sponsoring this program!
