Students take a tour of Goff Middle School at 6th Grade and New Student Orientation

Students take a tour of Howard L. Goff Middle School at 6th Grade and New Student Orientation on Wednesday, August 28.

Howard L. Goff Middle School administrators and staff welcomed the incoming 6th grade class and new students to orientation on Wednesday morning. Students gathered in the school cafeteria to meet principals, counselors, secretaries and security staff, they learned about school rules and expectations, and they reviewed their class schedules.

Interim Principal James McHugh welcomed the students to middle school, and tried to ease any nervousness they were feeling.

“We are thrilled to have you here. We look forward to seeing you here next week. But I want you to relax. You should not be worried,” he told the students.

“Every year a new group of 300-plus students come in and guess what, they figure it out. They’re OK. They survived it,” he continued. “So don’t be nervous. We’ll take good care of you. I promise.”

The students went on tours of the building, led by Goff Student Council, so they could find their lockers, homerooms and classrooms on their schedule. To end orientation, students enjoyed snacks in the cafeteria, talked with each other and asked any questions that they had.

The first day of school in the East Greenbush Central School District is scheduled for Thursday, September 5.
