On Friday, October 25, second graders in Jeffrey Ecker’s class at Green Meadow conducted a Pumpkin Investigation as part of their STEM lesson. Each student started by making predictions about their pumpkin’s weight, height, width, circumference, and seed count. They then measured their pumpkins and recorded their findings using metric units (centimeters and grams), just like real scientists. “The kids had a great experience practicing some valuable STEM skills while getting messy. Plus, they had fun,” said Mr. Ecker. Predictions
After measuring, the students cut into their pumpkins, scooped out the insides, and counted the seeds. When they were finished, the class placed their pumpkins outside as a snack for local wildlife.
