Sixth grade student Alexandrea Johnston, who plays for East Greenbush Girls Softball and attends Howard L. Goff Middle School, traveled to the World Series in Los Angeles this past weekend to compete in the MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Finals. She attended Game 2 of the World Series with her parents on Saturday and then on Sunday participated in the competition at Dodger Stadium.
“I’m really excited,” Johnston said last week in advance of the competition.
Pitch, Hit & Run tests players in throwing accuracy, hitting for power off a tee, and speed by running from home plate to first base. Johnston qualified by winning the local competition at her home field in East Greenbush, then winning the regional held at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Johnston was one of only seven softball players from across the county to compete in the Pitch, Hit & Run Finals for the 11/12 age group. Though she didn’t win the competition, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Great job, Alexandrea!
