Students search for items on a map of New York State

Bell Top 4th grade students participate in a scavenger hunt on a giant map of New York State.

Fourth grade students kicked off their shoes and stepped onto a giant 20′ x 20′ map of New York State on Thursday as part of an interactive lesson led by the Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Students learned more about New York State geography and how to read a map by participating in a scavenger hunt relay race. They worked in teams to find cities, borders, rivers and other land features using a key.

The activity was led by Kandis Freer from the Cornell Cooperative Extension. She brought the NYS map to Bell Top, which was produced by National Geographic.
