The Columbia Varsity Cheer Team won the Section 2 Class A Championship on Saturday at Albany High School, finishing in first place out of five teams. Columbia advances to the NYSPHSAA Championships for the second year in a row. They will compete on Sunday, November 10 at Hudson Valley Community College.
Additionally, Columbia cheerleader Ava Slauson ’25 was nominated to be a Section 2 Game Day Cheer All Star.
“The varsity cheerleading team had one goal at the beginning of the season, to get back to States,” said Columbia Cheer Coach Rhiannah Johnson. “With determination, hard work and an unwavering drive towards perfection, they did just that. Nothing was going to stand in their way, and this past Saturday, they performed better than they have all season. We are endlessly proud and continuously in awe of these 22 amazing competitors.”
