The Columbia Girls’ Soccer team fell to Albertus Magnus 2-1 in the Class AA State Championship game on Sunday at SUNY Cortland. After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Stella Seibert ’27 scored for Columbia off a pass from Lauren Bogucki ’27 late in the second half. The Blue Devils fought until the end, but could not complete the comeback.
This was Columbia’s (19-1-2) first ever appearance in the NYS Championship game.
“I am incredibly proud of the team and all the effort they put in the entire season,” said Columbia Head Coach Scott LaMora. “They worked hard each day and not only tried to improve themselves but as a team. This group will go down in history for Columbia Sports as the first ever girls’ soccer state finalists. Their legacy will live on forever. It was an amazing run.”
The Blue Devils qualified for the NYS Championship by winning the Section 2 Championship (for the third consecutive season), and then defeating East Syracuse Minoa 3-1 and Vestal 2-0 in the NYS Tournament.
Over the past three years, this team has 54 wins, 4 losses and 5 draws. And the 19 wins this season is the most in school history.
Congratulations to the Blue Devils on a fantastic season!
