Former Bell Top Principal Marty Mahar, who retired at the end of last school year after more than 30 years working in the East Greenbush Central School District, has been appointed as the new Interim Director of Human Resources.
Mr. Mahar will succeed Marissa Cannon who resigned for a new job opportunity. Mr. Mahar officially started yesterday following approval by the Board of Education on Wednesday.
As Interim Director of Human Resources, Mr. Mahar will be responsible for labor relations in the district, including recruitment of new teachers and staff, civil service reporting, and employee relations. Mr. Mahar will serve on the central administrative team and support each of the schools.
“With 32 years of experience at East Greenbush Schools, I’m confident in my ability to seamlessly transition into this role,” said Mr. Mahar. “I am looking forward to coming back to serve the district and work alongside my many close friends and colleagues.”
Mr. Mahar spent 32 years as an educator in the district with 14 years as a classroom teacher and 18 years as an administrator. He served his final eight years as principal of Bell Top. In that role, he was involved in the hiring of school employees and supervised teachers and staff.
“I am grateful that Marty is willing to help our district during this transition period,” said Superintendent Jeff Simons. “His experience in the school district and familiarity with our people and processes will ensure that the vital functions of Human Resources are maintained.”
