Jet Blue Pilot and Columbia High School graduate Amy Everett ’12 speaking to Goff Middle School students during a Career Speaker Series.
The Howard L. Goff Middle School Intro to Career and Technical Education program started its 2024-25 Career Speaker Series by hosting Columbia High School graduate and current JetBlue pilot Amy Everett ’12 last month.
Ms. Everett, who is the daughter of Goff Teaching Assistant Colleen Everett, spoke to students during Team Time in 8th period. She discussed her educational background, her career path and what she enjoys about her work as a pilot.
Ms. Everett is based in Tampa, Florida and pilots the Airbus A320 and Airbus A321neo. She mostly flies along the East Coast and has flights with approximately 200 people on board.
During her presentation, she answered questions from students and showed photos from her travels.
“I can honestly say I love what I do,” she told the students.
The Career Speaker Series was created by Intro to CTE – Home & Career Skills teacher Debreen Oliva. She is planning to host a guest speaker each month during the rest of the school year so students can learn about different fields.
“It was a real pleasure to have former Goff student, Amy Everett, as a guest speaker,” said Mrs. Oliva. “Students learned about her job as a pilot for JetBlue and it was especially valuable for students to hear how choosing a career is also a lifestyle choice. Ms. Everett explained that she loves to travel and fly but the trade-off is working on holidays and being away from home. This type of information and exposure will help students navigate the career exploration process.”
Special thanks to Amy Everett for visiting Goff Middle School!
