Visit our Facebook page to see inside the classroom of Genet 1st Grade Teacher Danielle Kush. On Thursday, January 16, students continued learning about polar bears by reviewing facts as a group on the rug in the front of the classroom and then rotating through different centers with hands-on activities. The centers included:
- Facts or Fiction
- Life Cycle of a Polar Bear
- Math Equations
- Scientific Experiment
For the experiment, students learned how the blubber of a polar bear keeps itself warm in ice cold water. Wearing disposable gloves, students dipped one hand in ice water and the other hand in a zip top bag filled with vegetable shortening, which was submerged in the same ice water. The activity showed students how the shortening, acting as blubber, helped insulate them from the cold water.
Inside the Classroom will be a regular feature on our website and Facebook page in which we highlight the learning that goes on in our classrooms.
