In honor of Black History Month, 4th grade students at Genet Elementary School have embarked on an exciting research project to explore the lives and contributions of influential Black figures throughout history. This project encourages students to deepen their understanding of Black history while developing important research skills.
Each student selected a historical or contemporary figure to study, ranging from civil rights leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks to groundbreaking artists, scientists, and athletes such as Maya Angelou, Katherine Johnson, and Jackie Robinson.
Students used books, online resources, and classroom discussions to gather information about their chosen figures’ early lives, accomplishments, and lasting impacts on society.
As part of the project, students are sharing their findings with classmates and creating posters that will be displayed in the hallway for other students to see.
“By allowing students to explore these stories in their own way, they gain a deeper appreciation for the resilience and achievements of Black leaders who have shaped our world,” said 4th Grade Teacher Joan Davis.
