The Goff Middle School Science Olympiad team placed 2nd in the Capital District at the Regional Championships on February 10, qualifying for the New York State Finals on April 4-5. Goff earned 46 medals, including 8 Gold, 12 Silver, 11 Bronze, and 15 4th & 5th place in the 23 events that were run.
The following students participated in in the Regional competition:
- Ninth graders: Matthias Austin, Sylvie Conroy, Romiel Esconde, Neil Gada, Likhita Ghanta, Shazia Khaliq, Castiel Kivlen, Luca Lombardi, Riya Malge, Rei Mukherjee, Mateo Orong,, Emily Rybakov, George Rybakov, Anthony Santaski, Soham Shah, and Kaylin Wood.
- Eighth graders: Avani Akula, Lin Aung, Sehar Bhatti, Brooke Belleville, Giuseppe Carbonaro, Audrey Crewell, Dominic Cunningham, Prasanth Gopinath, Nanditha Melam, Manika Mittal, Annabelle O’Keefe, Christopher Ozga, Ellieanna Pettinger, Tara Rossbach, Kashmala Sahibzada, Jason Shuttleworth, Jameson Smith, Soren Smith, Parisa Thapa, and Colin Vogel.
- Seventh graders: Carter Hill, Catelynn Hill, Andrei Picu, Jay Rappold, Chaitan Ravilla, Jayathi Tennakoon, Kyelah Weah, and Bree Wu.
The team competed at the prestigious Harvard competition on February 2. Luca Lombardi and Soham Shah received a Silver Medal for their amazing Mission Possible which is a Rube-Goldberg device. Their teammates Dominic Cunningham and Neil Gada had an impressive 4th place finish in the same event.
Coaches Donnamarie Vlieg and Zach Hutson, along with assistant coaches Seth Fowler and Colleen Everett, were very pleased to work with such an enthusiastic, hardworking group this year. They appreciated their dedication and were in awe of the building events. The team is looking forward to a successful finish at the NYS Finals in April!
