Visit our Facebook page to see inside the classroom of Bell Top 2nd Grade Teacher Kelly Panasci. On Friday, students created “snow” out of hair conditioner and baking soda as part of their states of matter lesson on solids, liquids, and gases. The class began with Mrs. Panasci reading The Snow Thief  by Alice Hemming, a story that explores winter themes and how the warmth of the sun melts the snow.

After the reading, students were given bowls with hair conditioner and baking soda that they stirred together until it made a snow like texture. After they got to that consistency the made little snowman. The lesson demonstrated how combining different types of matter can create something new.

Inside the Classroom will be a regular feature on our website and Facebook page in which we highlight the learning that goes on in our classrooms.
