Mark Mann, Board of Education vice president

Mark Mann will be resigning from the East Greenbush CSD Board of Education on June 30, 2025, following 17 years of service.

Mark Mann announced his resignation from the East Greenbush Central School District Board of Education at the public meeting on Wednesday evening. He will resign at the end of the school year on June 30, completing 17 years of service on the Board of Education.

In his resignation letter, Mr. Mann wrote that while he enjoyed his time on the school board, his military service with the New York Air National Guard has required more time and travel.

“I have enjoyed my entire experience on this board as well as my accomplishments,” he wrote. “I enjoyed bringing our district to another level of excellence, a successful beginning to a large capital project and most importantly what we are able to offer to our students of all levels of learners. We have a strong board who supports our students and staff and will continue moving the district forward. It truly has been my pleasure and wish you and the district the most successful future.”

Mr. Mann was first elected to the Board of Education in 2008. In addition to that volunteer service to the school district, Mr. Mann worked as a police officer in the East Greenbush Police Department until his retirement in 2015. As a police officer, he was the department’s DARE Officer and School Resource Officer at Columbia High School from 1994-2008.

The East Greenbush CSD has earned many accolades and awards during Mr. Mann’s tenure on the school board including: two schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools, multiple schools selected to the U.S. News & World Report Best School rankings, East Greenbush named Best School District in the Capital Region the past three years, East Greenbush CSD named a Top Workplace three times, and Columbia received the NYS Sportsmanship Award eight times.

The district has also created and maintained new student programs and learning opportunities. Importantly, all school budgets were approved by voters and four capital projects were developed and approved to improve school facilities.

“Mark Mann’s service to the community and long tenure as a board of education member has resulted in lasting contributions to our school district,” said Superintendent Jeff Simons. “Mark always prioritized the safety of our students, faculty and community and brought many ideas forward which have helped shape a culture of caring in the district. Mark’s leadership on the board provides a model for civic engagement. As a board member, Mark always studied the issues within the school district and balanced perspectives of students, staff and taxpayers when contributing to decisions.

“On a personal note, I have tremendous respect for Mark and will miss working with him as we both retire from our respective roles,” said Mr. Simons.

Mr. Mann’s colleagues on the Board of Education thanked him for his service at the end of the meeting on Wednesday and wished him well.

“Thank you, Mark,” said Board Member Jennifer O’Brien. “I think you are a true example of public service. And I think it’s so hard in this climate to encourage people to get into public service for various reasons so I hope others will see you as an example and choose to get involved.”

Mr. Mann’s term on the board will have one year remaining upon his resignation on June 30. The remainder of his term will be served by the individual who receives the fourth most votes in the Budget Vote and Board Election scheduled for Tuesday, May 20.
