Be The Change Club “Identity Tiles” on display in the hallway between the main office and cafeteria.
The “Identity Tiles” created by students and staff at Howard L. Goff Middle School are on display in the hallway between the main office and the cafeteria with the message “Be Yourself, Be Unique, Be the Change.”
In January, students and staff designed and colored tiles that represented something about themselves. Now, the tiles are hanging in the hallway for everyone to see and appreciate.
“We really wanted everyone to feel like one big community instead of a bunch of different people,” said 8th grade student and Be The Change Club President Stella Sacks. “So we asked kids to draw what represents them on the tiles. It really brought everyone together to do this one big project.”
A few of the members from the Be The Change Club had the opportunity to present the project to the Board of Education.
“It was a really big deal for the school,” Stella added. “Our club wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to be involved. A lot of kids were enthusiastic about it, and everyone felt really proud of the work they put into it.”
This project is part of the district’s Board of Education Vision and Goals to create a safe, inclusive, and diverse environment in our schools. The tiles will remain on display through the end of the school year. Stella hopes the tradition will continue after she graduates.
