“Climate Change”
By Christina Connelly
Is it a blessing or a curse
To be born always wanting more
When dirt roads weren’t enough
Concrete we began to pour.
When we had a need for houses
We cut down all the trees
Wondered why the world turned hot
But we took away the breeze.
Purchased new Iphones every year
Threw away the old ones with a crack
Filled our big trucks with gas
While turning the oceans blue to black
Spoiling kids with new plastic toys
Xboxes and playstations
When the weather started to change
We were too far in to ever stop.
So we flicked on the lights
Blasted our heaters and the AC
Complained about paper straws
Pushed a button to wash the laundry
Yawned as the glaciers began to melt
Watched the polar bears die away
As if we didn’t have to earn our stay.
Perhaps this is the ending
Human kind truly does need
To be ended by nothing else
But by our own greed.
