Columbia High School celebrated its April Students of the Month last week. Each student winner was nominated by a teacher or staff member for various categories such as Academics, Citizenship and Most Improved. Congratulations!

Michael Moynihan – (Grade 9)
Nominated by:  V. Gordon for Academics
“Michael is an extremely hard working art student. He has maintained a 99-100 average all year. He tries his best everyday and really cares about his work. He’s talented in the arts, polite and always respectful.”

Layla Mukhtar – (Grade 9)
Nominated by:  J. Lansing for Academics
“Layla is an outstanding student and model for her peers. She’s kind, incredibly hard working and demonstrates a strong work ethic in my AP World History class. She balances a very heavy academic load with many extracurricular activities and is always very helpful and positive. She deserves to be rewarded for this and more.”

Kristen Hedgepeth – (Grade 10)
Nominated by:  M. White for Most Improved & Citizenship
“I have worked with Kristen since 7th grade and have seen her grow tremendously as a student and person. She always comes to class prepared, gets her work done and is very respectful. She is on the quieter side – but she is a great person/student and deserves to be recognized!”

Thanzin Sint – (Grade 10)
Nominated by:  H. Gleason for Academics & Most Improved
“Thanzin has worked diligently in Living Environment to improve her test scores and quarterly average. She is conscientious and hardworking. She is also kind to her classmates!”

Cayleigh Snakkee Grant – (Grade 11)
Nominated by: A. Gioia for Citizenship
“Snakkee recently received her license to rescue animals and is starting her own company to help support these animals. She has worked really hard to achieve this goal that will help not only animals but the environment.”
Maggie Pollard – (Grade 11)
Nominated by:  R. Polaski for Citizenship
“During my English 11 class, Maggie has taken it upon herself to be supportive and kind to a classmate, who speaks very little English. I have witnessed Maggie pull up Google Translate to converse with her classmate. I have watched her, patiently, explain a task to summarize the text we are covering. She recently partnered with him on a group presentation and assisted him throughout the process.  Maggie was never asked to do any of this. This provides him with TRUE interactions with peers and his face just lights up. Maggie has made a difference in his life. I know that for sure. And when I watch her kind and compassionate behavior it makes my heart burst with pride. She 100% deserves to be recognized this month!”
Mitch Mendez – (Grade 12)
Nominated by:  K. Morrow, L. Johnas & A. DiBacco for Most Improved
“Mitch has done a phenomenal job regulating themself and making compromises. This has led to the ability to make good choices and to be successful. Mitch has worked hard to be a role model in the class and has made nice connections with students and staff!”
Meadow Wisenburn – (Grade 12)
Nominated by:  A. Culligan for Most Improved
“Since the 2nd Quarter ended Meadow’s attendance has dramatically improved. She totally turned it around! This also improved her academic grades. She told me that she was going for “Student of the Month” and in my opinion she deserves it!  I am very proud of her!”
