The East Greenbush Community Library will be showing a free screening of the film Free for All: The Public Library by Dawn Logsdon and Lucie Faulknor on Wednesday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

This film tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today’s librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.

Please join us to learn how public libraries shaped the country and continue to be a sanctuary for Americans everywhere. After the screening, you will have the opportunity to talk to our Director, Jill Dugas Hughes, as well as the heads of our Adult & Information Services, Youth & Family Services, and Borrower Services departments, and receive a behind the scenes tour of the library.

“We’re honored to host a screening of Free for All: The Public Library, a film that powerfully captures what’s at stake when we talk about access to information, ideas, and the freedom to read,” said Ms. Dugas Hughes. “At a time when books are being challenged and removed from shelves across the country, this documentary reminds us why libraries exist—to serve everyone, without judgment, and to protect the right to explore diverse viewpoints. We hope this screening sparks conversation about the essential role public libraries play in upholding intellectual freedom and providing a safe, inclusive space for learning and discovery.”
