Visit our Facebook page to see inside the classroom of Columbia High School Spanish Teacher Marna McMorris, as students in Spanish 4/SPAN 200 prepare for their end-of-year exam. Students practiced commands and the subjunctive by watching video featuring the expression “Abro Melon,” (I open a melon), a phrase Spanish speakers uses to introduce a controversial topic.
After receiving their own “melons” to open, each group gave their opinions, expressed their wishes, and persuaded their peers on topics from Artificial Intelligence to Pineapple on Pizza. After debating the topic in their group, students presented their opinions to the class for continued discussion. Students then “voted” on the debate winner argument using a Google Form.
