As graduation approaches and the Class of 2025 prepares for its next stage in life, teachers and staff who are retiring are doing the same. It is bittersweet as they embark on new and exciting possibilities but also leave meaningful careers in education.
The retirees were recognized for their service to the East Greenbush Central School District at Wednesday’s public Board of Education meeting in the Columbia High School auditorium. They represent all areas of the district including teachers, teaching assistants, food service, nurses, monitors, and bus drivers and aides.
Superintendent Jeff Simons announced each of the retirees by name at the board meeting so they could be recognized by the board, students and families in attendance.
“I guess I get to call this next group my graduating class because I’m going with you into retirement,” Mr. Simons said during the board meeting. “I’m very proud of the contributions that all of you have made to our school district. There are countless hours and countless years of dedication, professionalism, and support for students reflected in the next list of people that we’re going to recognize as our retirees.”
