Students at 5th Grade MixerAll fifth graders from the East Greenbush Central School District elementary schools gathered at Schodack Island State Park in Castleton on Monday for the annual 5th Grade Mixer. It was an opportunity to meet students from other schools before they start 6th grade together at Howard L. Goff Middle School in September.

Students rotated through different stations that included kickball, lawn games, the playground and other cooperative activities. They also ate lunch together.

The event was sponsored by the East Greenbush Education Foundation.

“This event provides not only a day of pure fun, it helps students to get to know their future classmates,” said Education Foundation Secretary Lynn Burdick. “The activities are centered around teamwork and getting to know each other. Seeing familiar faces in September will make the transition a bit easier when they enter middle school. The Education Foundation is happy to sponsor and organize the event, but the event would not be possible without the cooperation of the 5th grade teachers, building principals, and the many parent volunteers who help with the event.”

Special thanks to the fifth grade teachers and staff, parent volunteers, Transportation Department and the Education Foundation Board members who assisted with the event.
