The new Columbia High School tennis courts after a first coat of sealer. The tennis courts are on track for an August opening, just in time for the start of the 2025-26 school year.
The East Greenbush Central School District’s “Building a Bright Future” Capital Project is off to a flying start, with significant progress already being made and key components moving ahead of schedule.
During a presentation to the Board of Education on June 25, Turner Construction Project Manager James Thomas provided an updated timeline and project details.
Phase 1A, which includes replacement of the Columbia High School roof and the outdoor tennis courts and basketball courts, began in April. The roofing work is ahead of schedule and should be completed this fall rather than next year as originally planned. The tennis courts and basketball courts are on track for an August opening, just in time for the start of the 2025-26 school year.
In addition to the scheduled construction going on at Columbia this summer, a section of the entrance road was paved and striped earlier this week due to its poor condition. The paving is a top coat only. The entire entrance road will be replaced and widened as part of Phase 4 of the capital project.
Phase 1B, which includes the Goff Middle School athletic fields, access road and elevator, has been fully approved by the New York State Education Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Construction bids will go out in August and construction on the athletic fields is anticipated to start in September. The elevator project is scheduled for Summer 2026.
