Jeff Simons in a Genet classroom
Former Superintendent Jeff Simons was appointed as the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at a public Board of Education meeting on Wednesday evening. This key position has been vacant since July 1, following the resignation of Roy Stiles, who accepted a role in another district.

Mr. Simons will work part-time this summer to ensure continuity in curriculum oversight while the district conducts its search for a permanent assistant superintendent.

The district has received more than two dozen applications for the position, with interviews scheduled to begin this week. Given that the interview and selection process is expected to take several weeks, and the chosen candidate will likely need to provide notice to their current employer, an interim solution was deemed necessary.

Superintendent Dr. Kurtis Kotes specifically requested Mr. Simons to fill the interim role, citing his ability to oversee summer curriculum work and serve as a valuable resource to the new superintendent.

“Mr. Simons is highly respected throughout the school community and the community at large,” said Dr. Kotes. “His historical knowledge of the school district and professional background in curriculum and instruction will serve as a valuable asset to the district as we work to hire a permanent replacement for the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. He will serve as a stabilizing presence during a period of transition for the district.”

Mr. Simons starts on July 10.
