Columbia High School graduate Alivia Landy ’25 was named the 2025 Grand Scholastic Sports Woman of the Year at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala at Proctors on Monday evening.

Landy was one of 10 high school students to be nominated for Grand Scholastic Sports Woman of the Year. There was also four collegiate student athletes nominated for the Grand Collegiate award, which included Grand Collegiate Woman of the Year Grace Dobrzynski from Siena College.

Landy was a standout three-sport athlete for the Blue Devils, competing in volleyball, basketball and flag football. She was a First-Team All-State selection for the Columbia volleyball team last fall, where she was also a team captain. As a basketball player, she was a First-Team All-State selection, a Times Union First-Team All-Star and the Suburban Council’s 2024-25 Player of the Year as she wrapped up a career in which she scored more than 1,000 points. She was also a key member of Columbia’s flag football team that reached the state semifinals this past spring, earning Section II Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior and a senior.

Landy graduated from Columbia in June with an advanced regent’s diploma and a 95.5 final weighted average. She was a member of the Math League, Student Council and a Devil’s Advocate.

In the community, Landy volunteered in youth camps in all three of her sports. She joined her basketball teammates in the Adopt-A-Family program and wrote Valentine’s Day cards for residents at senior homes. She helped at the Columbia Multicultural Fair and served as a volunteer coach with the Unified basketball team.

“It means a lot,” Landy told the Times Union following the recognition. “Knowing that I can be a role model for younger girls and teammates, so they have someone to look up to, is really special. All the hard work behind closed doors didn’t go unnoticed.”

A total of 78 student athletes have been honored by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year since the program’s inception in 2020.

Liz Bishop, recently retired from WRGB-TV, CBS6, received the Award of Appreciation. The virtual guest speaker was Emma Baccellieri, an author and writer with Sports Illustrated. Entertainment was provided by Angelina Valente.
