New equipment in Goff exercise room
Howard L. Goff Middle School made an investment in the health of its students by adding new fitness equipment to the school exercise room earlier this week. The Goff physical education teachers worked with Columbia physical education teacher and strength and conditioning coach Tom Libardi to identify the equipment needed for their programs.

The equipment, which includes cardio machines, benches, racks and weights, will be used in physical education classes, athletic training, and for intramurals.

“We’re excited to add new fitness equipment to our exercise room, which is used daily by students and staff,” said Interim Principal Jim McHugh. “By integrating cardio and strength training into physical education and athletics, we’re not only supporting physical health but also the mental well-being that drives student success.”

New Cardiovascular Equipment:

  • 2 Nordictrack Treadmills
  • 3 Concept 2 Bikes
  • 2 Spirit Upright Bikes
  • 1 Stair Climber

New Strength Equipment:

  • 2 Power Racks (71″)
  • 4 Adjustable Benches
  • 3 (15KG) Barbells
  • 2 (20KG) Barbells
  • Dumbbell Set with Rack (5–50 lbs)
  • Kettlebell Set (5–30 lbs)
  • 5 Slam Balls (10 lbs each)
  • Resistance Bands (15–30 lbs and 30–60 lbs)
  • Mini Bands (various resistances)

Mr. Libardi said Goff students will be introduced to the basics of strength and conditioning. They will also be prepared for Columbia physical education courses which include Fit for Life Foundations.

“This is where I think physical education is headed,” said Mr. Libardi. “I think there’s always going to be traditional PE programs with outdoor and indoor games. All that is wonderful, but I think we are in a time where fitness and exercising is at the forefront. That I believe is the future of physical education.”
