Craig Lipps was appointed as the new Supervisor of Transportation by the Board of Education at its public meeting on Wednesday evening. Mr. Lipps is the current Transportation Director in the Guilderland Central School District and has more than 25 years of experience working in school transportation.
Mr. Lipps began his career as a bus driver for the Hudson Falls Central School District in 2000. He has also served as a safety and training manager, a dispatcher, a regional general manager, and a transportation director.
Mr. Lipps has led transportation departments of various sizes, including Birnie Bus Service in Jacksonville, Florida, which included 262 buses. While in that role, his fleet was recognized for excellent DOT maintenance for four years in a row. He also developed a new maintenance plan that resulted in the highest resale value of buses in the history of the company.
Mr. Lipps is a certified Director of Transportation, he has completed dozens of training and professional development courses, and he holds certificates in Transfinder, which is a software program used in the East Greenbush CSD Transportation Department.
“I am excited to be joining the East Greenbush Transportation team and serving your district and community,” Mr. Lipps said at the board meeting. “What we do makes a big difference. Getting these kids back and forth to school, it’s not just about getting them back and forth to school, it’s about getting them to their graduation. Letting teachers and kids focus on learning so they can succeed.”
In his current role as Transportation Director for the Guilderland CSD, Mr. Lipps has implemented a modern routing and transportation management system, added new training programs for staff, and reduced expenses by more than $2 million last year.
“The district was fortunate to have a highly qualified pool of applicants. From the onset of the interview process, it was quickly evident that Mr. Lipps’s professional attributes were the right fit for East Greenbush,” said Superintendent Dr. Kurtis Kotes. “His diverse experiences in transportation and his clear commitment to supporting the education of children will be of great benefit for our school district. We look forward to Mr. Lipps joining our leadership team.”
Mr. Lipps will start in East Greenbush on November 10.
