Genet Elementary School teachers Marie Chieco and Kelly Aldinger won the Co-Teaching Pair of the Year Award from the New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at a ceremony on Friday evening in Saratoga Springs.
Mrs. Chieco, a kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Aldinger, who previously served as an English as a New Language teacher, were recognized for their outstanding collaborative efforts in serving English Language Learners. The pair presented one of their successful co-taught lessons during a recent virtual conference, showcasing their effective strategies for teaching the Science of Reading to students learning English.
“Kelly and I are so honored to have received this award!” said Mrs. Chieco. “We have worked closely together over the past four years to adapt our teaching and provide our students with aligned instruction to help them succeed academically and linguistically, so to receive this award is a testament to our work.”
The award celebrates co-teaching teams that demonstrate exceptional partnership, dedication, and innovation in integrating language and content instruction for English Language Learners.
“Marie and Kelly are both outstanding educators dedicated to serving all students, particularly our English Language Learners,” said Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Lisa Mahar.
