Genet Elementary School students went on a bilingual safari Friday as guest author Alicia Dal Pra read from her book “Somos Niños, Nos vamos de Safari” and taught them Spanish words through a fun and engaging presentation.
As Dal Pra read from her book in the school auditorium, she invited student participation. Students answered questions, repeated words in Spanish, and two students packed a bag on stage with supplies they would need for a safari.
One of the most valuable aspects of the visit was the introduction of Spanish vocabulary. Dal Pra skillfully wove new words into the performance, teaching the young learners simple phrases and animal names in Spanish.
Students were excited to practice words like:
- Hipopotamo (Hoppopotamus)
- Sol (Sun)
- Agua (Water)
- Safari (Safari)
- Niños (Children)
“Author Alicia Dal Pra reminded our students that bilingualism is a gift,” said Genet ENL Teacher Jennifer Carraher. “We loved hearing her stories and learning new Spanish words together.”
Special thanks to the ENL Department and the Genet PTO for making this presentation possible!
