Visit our Facebook page to see inside the classroom of Goff Middle School Science Teacher Reghan Meek. On Thursday, students investigated the everyday phenomenon of “Why does cutting an onion make us cry?”
This topic ties together all of the chemistry concepts they have been studying so far — particle movement in solids, liquids, and gases; the differences between elements, compounds, and mixtures; and the distinction between physical and chemical changes.
On Thursday, students engaged in two key activities:
- They created a Driving Question Board to help generate ideas and pose questions.
- Students applied new knowledge gained and built on their earlier thinking.
Both activities support science and engineering practices, especially asking questions and developing and using models.
