Students in Whitney Leganczuk’s Pre-K class at Genet Elementary School have been practicing dramatic play. Over the past few weeks, students were introduced to a hot cocoa stand where they took on the roles of barista, cashier, and customer. Through dramatic play, they built math skills by counting items and handling pretend money, strengthened literacy skills by taking orders and reading the menu, and developed important social-emotional skills through communication.
The culmination of their lesson happened on Thursday and Friday when they invited fellow teachers and staff to stop by and order chocolate milk and cookies from their stand.
