Genet picture board of students with ducks on spring recess

A photo collage of students with their rubber ducks on spring break is displayed in Genet Elementary School.

Genet Elementary School students each took a special friend with them on spring break in April. Thanks to a creative Adopt a Duck project led by the Student Council, every student in the school received a little rubber duck to take with them.

Whether it was going to a playground, riding a scooter, visiting Niagara Falls, traveling south, or eating a meal with family, the students and their ducks enjoyed many fun activities together.

Throughout spring break, students kept a log and wrote about what they did with their ducks. They also sent in photos of them and their ducks on some of their adventures.

Upon returning to school, students wrote “What Did Your Duck Do?” reflections that included:

  • Student Name
  • Teacher Name
  • Duck’s Name
  • Memories Made Together

The Adopt a Duck adventure made for a fun project, it kept students connected to school during break, and it encouraged them to continue writing.

Special thanks to Genet parent Jessica Sweeney for generously donating the rubber ducks!
