East Greenbush Central School District voters approved a $118 million school budget for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday with a 72% supermajority.
The approved budget prioritizes a wide range of academic and extracurricular programs for students, ensuring continued support for:
- Pre-K and early childhood education
- Maintaining class sizes below district guidelines
- College credit and Advanced Placement courses
- Career and Technical Education
- Athletics, clubs, and enrichment activities
District administrators worked with the Board of Education since January to evaluate the budget for next year and close a $9 million budget gap through strategic reductions, use of reserves and fund balance, and a tax levy increase of 3.33% (within the NYS Tax Cap).
“We are extremely grateful to the East Greenbush community for the strong passage rate of the proposed budget for 2026-27,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kurtis Kotes. “The approval of both the budget and our vehicle proposition is an indicator of confidence from our community, which we take very seriously. We will continue to ensure that the resources the community gives to our schools will be used to offer the strongest education possible for our students.”
In addition to the school budget, voters approved the purchase of six new school buses from the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund. The new school buses will replace older buses according to the district’s bus fleet management plan.
In the school board election, Shay Harrison, Rob Marchiony, and Jesse Temple were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Education.
The Budget Vote and Board Election was held at four polling locations across the school district on Tuesday, including Howard L. Goff Middle School, Bell Top Elementary School, Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School and Green Meadow Elementary School.
