The 8th grade MAP students from Howard L. Goff Middle School visited the FDR Presidential Library & Museum in Hyde Park, N.Y. last week to learn more about Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and their roles in history. The field trip included:
- Tour of President Franklin Roosevelt’s home Springwood led by a National Park Ranger
- Analysis of primary sources so they could answer civic engagement questions related to issues during FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt’s time in the White House
- Visit to the interactive museum where students went through a timeline of the Roosevelt’s lives and saw original primary source artifacts related to them
“Overall, this field trip highlighted the benefits of the MAP program by giving them a chance to step out of the classroom and to see history firsthand,” said Goff Social Studies Teacher Tim Galvin.
