Columbia High School published its annual art and literature magazine “Labyrinth” last week during a public reception in the school library. Students were invited to the red carpet event with refreshments, photo opportunities and a slideshow of the original artwork. Contributors to the Labyrinth were invited to share their work from the podium during an open mic session.

The juried publication features photography, drawings and poetry created by students and staff from this school year. Each piece included in this year’s magazine was carefully reviewed and selected through a collaborative editorial process. Publication was not guaranteed; rather, submissions were evaluated on their artistic merit, originality, craftsmanship, and impact.

“Being selected for publication in a juried magazine is a meaningful accomplishment because it reflects not only creativity, but also the ability of a work to resonate with a discerning audience,” said Labyrinth Advisor Patti Shaw. “It is a testament to the talent that exists within our Columbia community. The works gathered in this publication represent that journey of self-discovery, and they invite all of us to walk alongside their creators.”

The students on the Labyrinth staff participated in meetings and creative workshops, encouraged and solicited submissions, and worked through the often difficult process of selecting pieces for publication. The staff carefully considered every submission and worked to create a final product that truly represents the very best of Columbia High School’s creative community.
