The fifth-grade students at Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School walked down the center aisle of the gym to “Pomp and Circumstance” as family, friends, and teachers watched them make their way to their seats for the last time as elementary school students. Principal Jack Alvey reflected on their years at DPS, highlighting how they had grown and changed to become the school’s leaders and role models.
The students then sang “Africa” by Toto as their class song, even changing some of the lyrics to express how much they will miss the “little school on the hill.”
Fifth-grade teachers Susan D’Amico and Jennifer Reddy announced each student by name and offered their congratulations, while Mr. Alvey presented the students with their certificates.
The students will join Howard L. Goff Middle School as 6th graders in September.
