COVID-19 Updates and Information

Grades 3-5 will return for full time in-person learning starting Monday, April 26, which will fully reopen all elementary schools. The K-12 Full Remote program will still be available to families who choose that option. Due to state regulations, Columbia and Goff will remain in the Hybrid Model at this time. The East Greenbush CSD will continue to evaluate options for Columbia and Goff students to receive increased in-person learning at 6 feet social distancing where possible.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

In an effort to accommodate the increased number of students being dropped off and picked up by parents, new procedures have been developed to increase safety and reduce congestion in the front of the school. Please be patient and understanding as we implement these new procedures. You can expect delays while parents, guardians, and staff become familiar with these new procedures.

Arrival Procedures

The Bell Top school reopening task force has carefully planned a process for taking student temperatures as they arrive. We will utilize five entrances during arrival. As buses arrive we will stagger the release of students. This will help us to limit student flow, maintain 6 feet physical distancing and check student temperatures. Teachers will direct children to specific entry doors based on their grade level. The temperature of all students will be taken at their assigned location. Thermometers have a short lag time in-between temp checks and they do not touch the student’s forehead. If a child has a reading of 100 degrees F or higher, we will ask them to step aside while remaining socially distanced. We will retake their temperature after a few minutes. If the child has a second reading that indicates they are above 100 degrees, they will be brought to an isolation room. This room is located right next to the nurse’s office. Our school nurse will then further examine the student.

Parents that are dropping off children at school will need to park in the lower level parking lot. You may arrive anytime after 8:45 a.m. Please escort your child up the sidewalk to the gymnasium door for a temperature check. Social distancing guidelines should be followed if you are waiting.

Dismissal Procedures

Student pick-up by parents will begin at 3:05 p.m. Please park in the lower lot and walk up to the front, main entrance. Check in at the front vestibule and your child will be released to you. Buses will be loaded as they arrive and students will be dismissed from their classrooms. Buses will be called 3 times.

Face Coverings/Masks

All students, staff and visitors on school property, including schools, parking lots, fields and buses, must wear a face covering (cloth mask or surgical mask that covers the mouth and nose). Bandanas and neck gaiters will not be permitted. The only times that masks will not be required is for eating/drinking and during designated mask breaks at the discretion of the teacher and within the parameters established by the school.

Schools/buses will have disposable face masks for any student who does not have a mask.

Only those with medically documented reasons for not wearing face coverings would be exempt from this mandate.

Daily Health Screenings/Temperature Checks

Temperature checks and submitting the Health Screening Form are required of parents daily before students leave for school. We recommend parents fill out the online screening form at home and submit it digitally. It is not necessary for K-5 students to bring hard copy forms with them to school.

Please check your children for the following COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

School staff will also perform temperature checks of students when they arrive at school. These checks will remain outside as students enter the building through multiple exits. Students cannot be permitted to enter a building without a temperature check and submitting the Daily Health Screening Form.

If a student has a fever (100 degrees or higher), they will be sent to the designated isolation room to be evaluated by a school nurse. Parents will be contacted immediately and asked to come pick up their child.
