Membership/Representation
The Committee for Curriculum Study (CCS) shall be made up of members whose terms will be for one year with the option to continue to serve on CCS beyond that, if desired. These members shall consist of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Board of Education members, Building Administrators, Department Chairpersons, Grade Level Content Coordinators, Teacher Representatives from each building, and a Community Member.
The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction will create each agenda and chair the committee meetings. A designated committee member will serve as Secretary and compile the minutes of each meeting.
Each member of the committee has one vote. Alternates vote only in the absence of a representative. Motions are passed or defeated by a simple majority of the members present.
Annual Objectives/Priority Areas
- The thorough completion of (5 Year) Program Reviews in order to ensure that our academic programs are meeting the needs of all students.
- Curriculum Writing – Based on SED changes, results from annual program reviews, BOE approval of New Programs/Course(s), etc. Curriculum development may be initiated by staff, pupils, parents, members of the community, or the Board of Education.
- New course proposals – Statement of Need, Cost, Rationale, Goals and Objectives of Course, Anticipated Impact, Endorsements
- Textbook proposals – Statement of Need, Cost, Rationale, Endorsements
The East Greenbush Central District’s Education Initiative reviews and discusses the district’s strategic plan, initiatives and programs throughout the school year in an effort to increase opportunities for students and best ensure that all of our students are college and career ready. Included within the scope of this committee is an on-going review of relevant data including but not limited to academic achievement, graduation rates, student interest surveys, and regional and national job analytics.
The Education Initiative investigates, advocates, and supports the development of new and responsive educational programs, identifies possible barriers for continuous growth and ensures that the education program remains consistent with the East Greenbush Central School District’s Mission and Goals which have been developed in cooperation with the Board of Education in an effort to foster stronger and more meaningful relationships with our surrounding community.

The Education Committee is committed to supporting the successful implementation and roll-out of the newly created Portrait of a Graduate for the East Greenbush Central School District. We will achieve this by developing a comprehensive action plan that outlines clear strategies and timelines for integrating the Portrait into all aspects of the school district, from curriculum development and instruction to professional development and community engagement.
The Portrait of a Graduate initiative will support the goals of the board of education to ensure EGCSD is future-driven and whole learner focused.
