As Ukraine deals with an invasion and a refugee crisis, East Greenbush Central School District students and staff are responding with a variety of service projects. Members of our school community are invited to join these efforts.
Active Projects
Best Buddies Ukraine Relief Fund
- Best Buddies International, which has a chapter at Goff Middle School, is supporting Ukraine with a relief fund to assist with evacuations, temporary living arrangements and Best Buddies Ukraine program.
- Donations can be made at the Best Buddies International website.
Completed Projects
Stuff a Bus for Ukraine
- Students and staff brought together the East Greenbush community on April 2 as they stuffed two buses filled with medical supplies and hygiene products that will be shipped to Ukraine. The collection effort was organized by the East Greenbush Central School District’s Global Education Committee as a way to help with the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
- The donations were delivered by school bus to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church in Watervliet. The church will ship the supplies to Ukraine.
District-wide Dress Down Day – $2,450 Donated to UNICEF
- Faculty and staff from across the East Greenbush CSD participated in an optional dress down day on Friday, March 11.
- Wear the colors blue and yellow to show support.
- Donations collected in the main office of all schools and will go towards UNICEF, specifically for children affected by the crisis in Ukraine.
Columbia Dress Down Day – $437 Donated to UNICEF
- Columbia faculty and staff participated in an optional dress down day on Friday, March 4.
- Wear the colors blue and yellow to show support.

Key Club Collection
- The Columbia High School Key Club donated boxes of food, toiletries and medical items on Tuesday to support the Ukraine relief efforts.
- The donations were collected by Key Club during March and then brought to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Watervliet, where they will be packaged and shipped to Ukraine.
Amnesty International CLYNK Fundraiser – $145 Donated to UNICEF
- The Amnesty International club at Columbia organized a fundraiser to support UNICEF through CLYNK bottle return bags at Hannaford.
