Updated February 1, 2018

When and where is the vote?

Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Bell Top, Donald P. Sutherland, Green Meadow and Goff Schools.

There are four polling sites. Where should I vote?

The school district is divided into election zones as follows:

1) Bell Top – Residents of the Town of North Greenbush
2) Goff – Residents of the Town of East Greenbush
3) Donald P. Sutherland – Residents of the Towns of Sand Lake or Chatham or Residents with a Nassau mailing address
4) Green Meadow – Residents of the Town of Schodack who do not have a Nassau mailing address

If you are still unsure as to where to vote, please call the Business Office for clarification at 518-207-2535.

Who is eligible to vote?

Anyone who is a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older, and a resident of the East Greenbush Central School District for at least 30 days prior to the vote. You do not need to own property in the school district to be eligible to vote.

Do I have to register?

Yes. Because there are multiple polling sites, New York State law requires you to register before you are permitted to vote. If you have voted in a school election within the last four years, you are already registered to vote. If you are registered to vote with the Rensselaer County Board of Elections, you are deemed registered for the school election.

When and where do I register?

Register on regular business days in the District Clerk’s Office, located in the Citizen Genet Elementary School, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Do I need to bring any documents in order to register?

District residents are required to appear in person and show proper identification to prove minimum age requirements and residency. Such identification may include, but not be limited to, valid driver’s license, passport, or student identification. If the identification presented is not up to date, missing information, or expired, other proof of residency may be requested such as a utility bill, phone bill, or other document with proper address in the school district.

How can I vote by absentee ballot?

Qualified district residents who are unable to go to the polls on May 15, 2018 may cast their votes by absentee ballot. An application is required first and may be obtained by calling the District Office at 518-207-2535. Applications will also be available on the District’s website at www.egcsd.org after April 17, 2018. The due date for applications is Tuesday, May 8, 2018 if received by mail or Monday, May 14, 2018 if received in person at the District Office. Once a completed application is approved, an absentee ballot is issued to the voter who must return it to the District Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Note that individuals designated as permanently disabled by the Rensselaer County Board of Elections will automatically receive an absentee ballot.

Where can I obtain a budget information packet?

A copy of the proposed budget broken down by line items will be available in the main office of each school building, the district office, local public libraries, and the District website at www.egcsd.org no later than Tuesday, May 1, 2018. For further information, please call the Business Office at 518-207-2535.
