School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

The Howard L. Goff Middle School Backpack Program received a $1,500 donation from Stewart’s Shops at the grand opening of one of its new convenience stores on Friday morning. During the ceremony in front of the new store on Columbia Turnpike, Erica Komoroske from Stewart’s Shops presented Superintendent Jeff Simons, Principal Jill Barker and Social Worker Jamie Eggleston with a check for $1,000 and $500 worth of milk and egg gift cards.

“Stewart’s Shops is happy to support the Backpack Program to offer meals to students that may otherwise go hungry on the weekends and school breaks,” said Ms. Komoroske. “The egg and milk certificates will be used to fill the backpacks of children most in need!”

The donation will fully fund the school’s Backpack Program, which provides students identified by school staff as susceptible to hunger with free breakfast and lunch on weekends, into the 2021-22 school year.

“Thanks to Stewart’s Shops generous monetary and gift card donation, we are able to expand our current backpack program,” said Mr. Eggleston. “This donation makes it possible for us to expand our program by six participants, allowing us to provide 23 of our neediest students at Goff with food on weekends, when school lunches and breakfasts are not available. On behalf of all the students in the Backpack program, I again want to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude.”

Goff launched its Backpack Program in February 2019 to fill the gap of students not being at school to receive their free breakfast and lunch.
